There is plenty to sightsee in Alexandria including the Catacombs of Kom El-Shouqafa, the underwater ruins of Montazah and Maamoura, Abu Al-Abbas Al-Mursi Mosque and the Old Library (the largest, most significant and oldest library in the world). If you’re looking to see the traditional side of Alexandria then head to the Anfushi Fish Market but get there early. Souk El-Attarine is also a traditional souk with narrow alleys brimming with local wares, which make for great souvenirs. The San Stefano Grand Plaza is much more modern and it has a cinema, children’s play centre food court and top brands to shop. There’s also a Ladies Market.

Transport in Alexandria
flynas arrives into Terminal 1 at the Burj Al Arab International Airport which is located in Borg El-Arab, 50 kilometres from the city center. Once you’re on the ground the best modes of transport are taxis, railway, tram, buses and cars for hire.
Taxis are readily available 24 hours a day. Agree on your fare before you ride, as meters aren’t always in use.
Buses are also located outside Terminal 1, and leave every 10 minutes between 6am and 10pm. Bus tickets cost 3LE (Egyptian Pound) ($0.50).
The Tram is 0.25LE ($0.03).
Weather in Alexandria
Alexandria enjoys slightly cooler weather over the summer months averaging 27 degrees in August and 13 degrees in January. There is also moderate rainfall throughout the year.
