Riyadh’s diverse landscapes have something for all hikers, from beginners to seasoned explorers.

Before you set out, remember sun protection and a comfy pair of walking shoes. You’ll find hiking shoes in Riyadh at a number of shops, such as Advsto and Decathlon.

The Edge of the World

A short 60-mile drive from the capital, the Edge of the World is arguably the most popular hiking spot in Riyadh. This trail leads you to the top of a 1,000-foot-high cliff with unbelievable views over a vast valley and desert sands stretching from horizon to horizon.

About five miles long, there and back again, this route is not too taxing, but has rocky and sandy terrain in some spots. Along the way, you’ll see fossil-rich rock and age-old seabed formations.

We recommend you book this excursion through a Riyadh hiking group, such as Yalla Hike Riyadh, as you’ll need a 4x4 to get to the starting point of the trail.

Camel Trail

Technically part of the Edge of the World route, the Camel Trail is approximately a mile long. Here, you can trace the steps of the ancient camel caravans while exploring rock formations and age-old stone steps rising up the Tuwaiq Mountain.

Wadi Hanifa

If you want a casual hike, Wadi Hanifa is your go-to. It’s located within the city confines and meanders through historic areas such as Diriyah.

This once-neglected area has been converted into a gorgeous natural space with flowing water, lush greenery, and shaded rest spots. You can do more than just hike here! There are also cycling and horse riding.

Ain Heet Cave

About 18 miles outside Riyadh, the Ain Heet Cave perfectly blends hiking and exploration. Enter the depths of the earth to experience an amazing sight.

This cave has a natural freshwater lake with crystal clear, ice-cold waters. It’s almost 100 feet deep and more than 490 feet long. As sunbeams hit the water, it casts a blue shimmer onto the cave walls, a truly unforgettable sight!
