Austria Multi-Destination Itinerary
One Trip, Four Destinations: An Austrian Summer Escape
Ever dreamed of touring Austria and visiting multiple destinations, but worried the cost might give you nightmares? Our affordable flights to Austria put these dreams within your reach.
Start your Austrian adventure in Salzburg, journey through stunning mountains, lakes, and cities, and fly home from Vienna — or simply reverse the route and start in Vienna instead.
Getting you there and back again in style and comfort is what we do best. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the flight. Onboard Wifi, delicious snacks, scrumptious pre-ordered meals, and outstanding services from takeoff to touchdown — we’ve got you covered!
Hop on a train or rent a car for the trip between Salzburg and Vienna. Although the high-speed trains are fun, we highly recommend renting a car to explore hidden gems away from the main routes. With a car, you’re in control of your time and can enjoy the journey without rushing to catch a bus or train.
Austria Multi-City Itinerary
We’ve designed the perfect Salzburg-to-Vienna summer itinerary that includes four amazing destinations in just one trip. A straight drive from Salzburg to Vienna is just over three hours long, but there are loads of interesting stopovers and sights along the way!
So turn on that navigation system and let’s go!
Salzburg: Baroque Charm and Alpine Beauty
Known as the birthplace of Mozart, this gorgeous alpine city serves as a gateway to the Austrian Alps. There are so many things to do in Salzburg and its surrounding areas.
Hohensalzburg Fortress is an enormous medieval castle with stunning views. The nearby Mirabell Gardens is a prime example of Baroque landscaping and features interesting attractions like the Pegasus Fountain and the Dwarf Garden. The Salzburg Old Town is charm itself and the ideal place for a cup of coffee before continuing on your adventures.
Take a short drive to the Salzkammergut (Lake District) to immerse yourself in astounding natural beauty. Enjoy a delicious meal while soaking up the alpine wonders. Add a day to your itinerary and go on a hike along the lakes!
Hallstatt, approximately an hour and a half by car from Salzburg, is your next stop.
Hallstatt: Austria’s Picturesque Lakeside Village
This fairytale village lies between Lake Hallstatt and the dramatic Dachstein Alps. Although small, this tiny town is well-known for many reasons.
Our favourite Hallstatt attractions include the 7,000-year-old Salzwelten (the Salt Mine), which can be reached by funicular, and the Hallstatt Skywalk, a panoramic platform suspended more than 1,000 feet above the village - the views are amazing. Dining at one of the lakeside restaurants is a must!
Next up is Zell am See, which is a little less than a two-hour drive from Hallstatt.
Zell am See: Mighty Mountains and Summer Adventures
This alpine resort town in Salzburgerland has it all — a crystal-clear lake, majestic mountains, and a year-round glacier! A dream come true for nature lovers, there are loads of adventurous things to do in Zell am See.
Lake Zell is the heart of this region and offers boat tours, paddleboarding, and swimming. It’s also an amazing experience to hike along the shores. A cable car takes you to Schmittenhöhe Mountain, which, aside from its breathtaking views, has great hiking trails. The Kitzsteinhorn Glacier is just a 20-minute drive from Zell am See. Here, there’s an almost 10,000-foot-high viewing platform that offers unimaginable views.
A natural wonder in the Austrian Alps, the Krimml Waterfalls are about an hour’s drive from Zell am See, and well worth the detour.
Your last stop before flying home is Vienna, and the drive from Zell am See takes about four and a half hours.
Vienna: Historic Grandeur and Modern Culture
Austria’s capital is a pristine metropolis with a tapestry of imperial history, art, and a famous coffee culture.
Top Vienna attractions include tours of the imperial palaces, showcasing the rich and lavish lifestyles of the historic Habsburg Empire. The Belvedere also displays some of the artwork of Gustav Klimt.
You’ll forever remember a performance at the legendary Vienna State Opera, and the Lipizzaner stallions at the Spanish Riding School are truly something to see. Young and old will enjoy a ride on the Giant Ferris Wheel at the Prater Amusement Park.
Soak up this city’s unique coffee culture in one of the many cafés. It’s more than aromatic brews; it’s the peak of relaxation and enjoyment!
