The Ultimate Prague-Vienna-Budapest Itinerary
Nicknamed the Golden Triangle of Central Europe, Prague, Vienna, and Budapest are close together, making it easy to explore all three on a single trip. Discover their intertwined histories and cultures on one unforgettable summer adventure.
The drive from Prague to Vienna takes less than four hours, and from Vienna to Budapest, it’s approximately three hours.
Prague: Historic Charm and Timeless Architecture
Prague’s diverse historical influences can clearly be seen in its old buildings. These feature everything from Romanesque arches and soaring medieval Gothic spires to 16th-century Renaissance symmetry and dramatic Baroque domes.
The best way to get a closer view of these sites is on a Prague Old Town walking tour. A Vltava river cruise gives you a different perspective of the city, and includes panoramic views of the well-known Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, and National Theater.
Prague's café culture is about much more than just coffee. It’s deeply embedded in this city’s “personality”; it’s where life slows down while savoring aromatic brews. We definitely suggest visiting more than one café to fully discover different atmospheres and coffees. The food, like Goulash (a stew), is hearty and packed with flavor.
Vienna: Exquisite Grandeur in the Heart of Europe
This pristine capital is famous for its splendid imperial palaces and its role in classical music. Vienna summer travel means walking through the streets, exploring the attractions, and having a cup of coffee with something sweet.
The Schönbrunn and Hofburg Palaces were the summer and winter homes of the Habsburg monarchs. The first has magnificent rooms and huge, landscaped gardens. Hofburg has museums that showcase the history of the period.
Equally impressive is the MuseumsQuartier, an art and culture zone. Almost 100,000 square feet, it’s home to a fusion of Baroque architecture and contemporary designs. It even has children's museums!
Fans of classical music and ballet should not miss the chance to see a performance at the Vienna State Opera.
Like Prague, Vienna’s coffee-house culture is something to experience. Grab a cup of steaming coffee with a slice of Sachertorte (Vienna’s world-famous chocolate cake). Aside from the delicious pastries, you can also enjoy sumptuous stews and breaded meats.
Budapest: The Pearl of the Danube
The capital of Hungary borders the mighty Danube River; in fact, it slices through the city, dividing it into two distinct parts. Apart from its awesome location, Budapest has a rich history and flavor-packed food.
A boat cruise on the Danube is not to be missed. It gives you amazing views of the city’s iconic architecture, and night cruises are enchanting when everything is lit up. The Hungarian Parliament is especially amazing when the sun goes down.
Buda Castle and Fisherman’s Bastion are among the top Budapest attractions, and offer a mix of history and stunning views over the city.
Budapest’s street food is mouthwatering. Delicious things to try include lángos (deep-fried dough loaded with garlic, sour cream, and cheese), chicken paprikash served with traditional dumplings called nokeldli, and chimney cake (grilled dough rolled in sugar, cinnamon, or nuts).
Don’t miss out! Plan your European summer adventure today! We cannot wait to welcome you aboard!
