Khartoum is home to the largest museum in Sudan, the National Museum, which opened in 1971. There’s also the Palace Museum and the Great Mosque to explore. However one of Khartoum’s biggest attractions is that while it may be hot, dry and dusty the city still has a Botanical Garden which is located in the Mogran district. Also if you’re in the city on the first Friday of the month then visit the Presidential Palace for the changing of the guard.

If you love to shop then head straight for Souq Al Arabi, which is one of the largest open-air markets. Here you’ll find clothing, food, gold and so much more but you’ll need a day to get through the market as it’s spread over seven blocks. If you prefer to shop in a mall then visit Afra Mall, otherwise shop along Al Qasr Street and Al Jamhoriyah Street.

Transport To and From Khartoum Airport

Taxis are available however it’s best to agree on the price with your driver before you ride. However the starting price for a ride around town is 10 SDG ($2.25).
